Why join the SFA Slack?

The SFA team uses Slack because we want to foster communication, sharing, and ultimately build a strong community of people interested in illustration and science communication. If you are interested in having more direct input in the direction that SFA is going and involvement in programs that we hope to launch in the future, then PLEASE join us!

Slack was designed as a collaboration tool for the workplace, which makes it particularly appealing for us because we want SFA to be a collaborative community. It is available as a web and mobile app. You can download it on your phone or computer to chat in real time with other members, send direct messages, share images and links, access archive of all channels and so much more!

As an added bonus, Slack is a useful tool for artist and clients to use when working on projects together. We encourage all our illustrators to give it a try as a means to organize their client work and keep a detailed archive of all their communication in one, searchable place. Multi-tasking for the win!

Quick Guide to Getting Started

Follow the link in the invitation email and create an account. You will automatically be added to the SFA workspace and the #welcome channel. Here, you will find the community guidelines and a list of all the other channels you can join. You are free to join and leave channels at any time, and if you feel something is missing you can even create your own channel!

We suggest you download the mobile app on your phone and the desktop app on your computer. You will only need to log in once. It’s a good idea to turn off all Slack notifications, or only leave them on for a select few channels that you are interested in keeping track of.
