Born and raised in upstate New York, Bayla has been incessantly painting and drawing the people and environments around her since the day she could first hold a crayon. Her work is primarily in watercolors and depicts whimsical illustrations of botanical and zoological subjects, as well as some portraiture. Bayla has had her work displayed in exhibits, galleries, and museums across the country, including the Yale Peabody Museum, Missoula Art Museum, and the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington D.C. Her work has been featured on album covers, product packaging, in museum displays, and even on an oil tank along Interstate 95. Bayla currently lives and works in New Haven Connecticut with a scientist, a parrot, a chameleon, a variety of poison dart frogs, and a snake to keep her company.

Bayla Arietta enjoys working on both scientific illustration subjects as well as some portraiture. Inspired by naturalists and artists such as Audubon, Haeckel, Balugani and the Wyeths, Bayla takes inspiration from environmental issues, scientific articles, traveling to cold places, the color brown, and walks in the woods. Using tiny brushes and many layers of paint to create whimsical and intricate illustrations of botanical and zoological subjects, or the faces of familiar friends, Bayla revels in capturing the meticulous detail and intricacies of the natural world.
